On Friday, September 25, the mileage counter of the Distance Pennant Program was hovering just under 9,150,000 miles. A whopping 307,500 of those miles were represented at the pennant award presentation at the Nordhavn Owners Rendezvous, where owners of 16 boats earned milestone mileage burgees.

Coincidentally, the DPP was launched at another rendezvous, the 2013 Nordhavn Rendezvous in Bristol, Rhode Island. Little did we know that this simple ritual, intended to give us some idea of how many miles a given Nordhavn covers over the course of its existence—and perhaps give owners some deserved bragging rights—would evolve into a series of achievement awards, serving as a major source of inspiration for other cruisers and goal markers for adventurous owners.

At the NOR in Everett, Washington, last weekend, pennants in eight different denominations were handed out, including an unbelievable 55,000-nm burgee.
