Overview
Emily Grace is a well equipped and proven world cruiser that has circumnavigated the world twice by her previous owners. Her current owner is a knowledgeable yachtsman who has maintained and upgraded the vessel every year since he started his stewardship in the fall of 2017. During that time he has put well over $200,000 into refits making the vessel ready to make the trip around again.
Specifications
Starting out on the aft deck of Emily Grace you will find a nice sitting area that is covered by canvas and is part of the tender storage bracket. The aft deck has a nice layout for a couple of deck chairs and a table. There is also a lazarette located beneath the deck for storage of dock lines, fenders, and anything else that you need for docking.
Before going inside you will find a decent sized swim platform with a heavy duty four step telescoping dive ladder. The swim platform is also integral with the tender storage above.
Davits were included on the boat at time of purchase and were saved and could be reinstalled but would need alterations or removal of the custom cradle tender mount that is above the aft deck. This custom cradle opens up the boat deck for lounging and cooking on the rail mounted BBQ grill.
Upon entering the salon there are two new easy chairs and a table with U-Line icemaker inside on the starboard side. The port side features a u-shaped settee and table that is mounted on a hi-lo table/pedestal and can be converted to a cocktail table (table comes apart to form a smaller table). Additionally there are two Racor gauges mounted on the stack bulkhead to monitor filter status while underway without entering the engine compartment.
Mounted on the bulkhead at the forward end of the salon is a Samsung flat screen TV and DVD player that can be viewed from anywhere in the salon. Not seen but an upgrade in the salon is a new Dometic 16,000 BTU air conditioning unit (2018). Plus, all six salon windows have had the window felts replaced for ease of opening.
Just forward of the salon on the port side is the galley that features a new glass top electric stove/oven with a convection microwave oven above. Note: the original propane stove was kept and is in storage. The propane locker on the aft deck is still there for anyone who wishes to convert back to a gas stove. (propane tanks are included and in storage). Forward of the stove is a Waeco top loading freezer right next an Isotherm refrigerator/freezer (2019). The galley is finished out with a spice rack and deep sink plus many lockers for storage of galley items. The beauty of this layout and location of the galley is that anyone working in the galley is also part of any conversation going on in the salon. Additionally on the aft end of the port settee you will see a bilge pump counter mounted on the bulkhead plus a large manual bilge pump handle inlet for the manual pump.
Moving up the starboard side into the pilothouse you will find a new suite of electronics (see list below) along with a Stidd helm chair for enjoyable watches while underway. Very few N46s have helm chairs as they were not an option when the boat was built. Aft of the helm chair is a nice raised settee and table. Directly behind the settee is an off-watch berth. Additionally, there is a swing up chart table by the port side sliding door. Overhead is a large hatch along with two opening windows to help with ventilation. Highlights in the wheelhouse (besides the new electronics) include Naiad hydraulic stabilizers that are activated at the flip of a switch (no paravanes needed). Additionally, the bow and stern thruster controls make maneuvering around the dock easy as they are controlled by both the toggle controls in the wheelhouse as well as a remote control that a crewmate can wear while tying lines on the exterior decks (great in tight docking situations). Matching up with the remote for the thrusters are a set of head sets so captain and crew can communicate directly while docking.
Staterooms are either accessed from the stairway down on the starboard side of the wheelhouse (guests) or by a door leading forward from the salon (owners’ stateroom). This provides privacy for guests and owners or they can be joined by opening a door between the staterooms. Additionally, there is a Splendide WD2100XC washer/dryer combo unit tucked into an alcove next to the stairway down to the forward stateroom.
The owners’ stateroom features an athwartship queen size bed (new mattress in 2018) with drawers and hanging lockers around it. Across from the foot of the berth is a roomy head featuring a new Tecma electric toilet, vanity and separate shower.
The guest stateroom features a double berth (new mattress in 2018) on the port side and a single to starboard (sitting area). This area also includes a private head with new Freshwater toilet with shower. Both staterooms feature LED lighting, hanging locker, and drawer storage.
Engine room access is through a door in the shower area of the OSR or by opening hatch in the salon. There is a custom fuel selector panel near this access point making it easy to change tank selections easy while doing engine room checks. There are also removable floor panels in the salon just in case larger access is needed.

A Note on Lugger Engines by Bob Senter AKA “Lugger Bob”
“Don’t confuse Nordhavns with the average white boat you see for sale. None of the same rules apply. Continuous duty rated engines, for example, are only used on commercial vessels and Nordhavns. That means that they could have an expected life of somewhere between 20,000 and 40,000 hours and are designed to be overhauled to new in the hull economically. Virtually, all the components you find in a Nordhavn were the best of the breed at the time the boat was built. The most difficult thing for most buyers to understand is that when you find a high hour boat, it must have been continuously maintained in order to remain in top quality, so you’ve found a jewel. A low hour boat can appear cosmetically excellent but hide a multitude of hidden issues, most of which are directly connected to seawater or corrosion eating up expensive stuff you can’t see. However, you will absolutely pay for it after the purchase, usually one frustrating surprise at a time. You don’t need to worry about high hours on Northern Lights generators or Lugger propulsion engines that get broken in around 5000 hours. I have seen a few engines killed by negligence or seawater intrusion but none that actually wore out in a Nordhavn. The John Deeres are also good. Finally, all used boats have some cosmetic opportunities both external and internal but it is part of buying a used boat.”
