Overview

“MV Skope” is hull number 48 of the hugely successful Nordhavn 55 model. She is quite possibly the most well equipped N55 ever built and is also quite possibly the most cared for, meticulously and proudly maintained N55 on the water. She has been maintained and operated absolutely without regard for cost, by a professional Captain/Engineer, who is one of New Zealand’s most experienced offshore mariners. The Nordhavn 55 was designed to provide maximum comfort underway while living aboard during extended cruises. The generous interior volume is made possible by the relatively high bow and high freeboard of the design. And “MV Skope” has been equipped with an extensive list of the highest quality Retail Options, all designed to enhance the safety, comfort and style of the owners and their family. Exceptionally low hours on all engine room appliances, coupled with a rigorous maintenance schedule, ensure that “MV Skope’s” new owner will be assured of trouble free and peace of mind boating for many years into the future.

“MV Skope” features the stunning optional ‘all white’ gelcoat, and her gleaming ‘Supershield White’ topsides and superstructure, offset by a dark blue ‘whale strip’ draw admiration wherever she goes.

Whether it’s long trans-ocean voyages or short coastal cruises, the ABT Trac active stabilization keeps your passages comfortable. With powerful hydraulic bow thruster and stern thrusters and four control stations, she is a dream to operate, allowing for easy manoeuvring in tight anchorages and marinas. Redundant systems, high-end domestic appliances and an impressive array of electronics were installed to reach and enjoy the most remote destinations in safety and style.

“MV Skope” is one of a very few Nordhavn 55s currently available on the brokerage market. These models are traditionally closely held by families for long periods, so the opportunity to secure a very low hour, well sorted vessel should be seriously considered. No expense was spared on her original build order. From the factory she came highly upgraded with multiple custom additions inside and out, including the popular forward VIP centre line double guest cabin arrangement, and the factory GRP built extended swim platform.

One of Nordhavn’s most popular models, the N55 appeals to those looking for a motoryacht offering the most modern of conveniences and enhanced living arrangements, while still maintaining superior seakeeping qualities.

“MV Skope” is fully imported into New Zealand, with all Taxes and Duties paid. For New Zealand buyers, these taxes follow the boat and add value to it because the new buyer (and the next buyer after that) does not have to pay those taxes again.

This next paragraph is for Americans and/or USD buyers: With the strong US Dollar, you could purchase “MV Skope” at a great price, explore New Zealand and have a grand adventure cruising the incredibly beautiful waters of New Zealand, the Australian coast, Papua New Guinea, Fiji, the Solomon Islands, New Caledonia, and all of the western Pacific and beyond. She is lying at her home berth in Picton, in the heart of New Zealand’s iconic picturesque wine region, and the world-famous cruising grounds of the Marlborough Sounds. A long range passagemaker of this quality is an extremely rare appearance on the brokerage market, you simply won’t find another like her!

Please take a moment to review the impressive specifications and inventory of this very special vessel……

SPECIFICATIONS

Accommodation Description:
This vessel features the desired two double guest cabin layout. The owner’s stateroom is on the same level as the galley, and it is located amidships, where the motion is least objectionable during passages and while at anchor. A king sized, walk-around berth, two hanging lockers and a spacious head complete with a shower/bath tub rival the space of most home bedrooms.

Forward is a spacious guest cabin with centre line double sized berth, huge hanging locker, office area and spacious private head with stall shower. Comfortable stairs with hand rails lead from both the saloon and the cabin foyer, up to the private Pilothouse cabin which features a double berth, ample storage lockers and an adjacent toilet with washbasin and mirror.
Additional stateroom features include:

  • Magnetic retaining latches on all doors in cabins and heads

  • Oceanair low profile roller screen and blackout shades

  • Custom pillowtop mattresses in master cabin, guest cabin and pilothouse cabin; specially sized with 1″ gap all around to allow for easy bed making

Saloon:
Long a Nordhavn feature, the main saloon opens directly to the aft cockpit, which is on the same level. This design effectively expands the living area from the inside to the outside, and the cockpit becomes an extension of the saloon, even in foul weather.

The asymmetrical cabin design allows for a wider main saloon and galley and features a wide side deck on the starboard side. A large, L-shaped settee and beautifully finished teak table with starburst pattern are adjacent to two comfortable reading chairs. Two bar chairs face the pass-through counter top in the galley, which is two steps down from the saloon.

Pilothouse:

The Nordhavn 55 shows her serious side in her commercial-like pilothouse. Located amidships for minimal motion at sea, it provides excellent, 360-degree visibility. A full-sized Stidd 500-XL PNF Ultraleather and chrome finish power operated helm chair puts the captain comfortably in command of his ship, with all electronics and controls within sight and reach. The overhead above the helm chair has been finished in black “Majilite’ to reduce night running glare.

Aft of the teak wood varnished destroyer type helm chair, an L-shaped settee and teak table with starburst pattern, elevated for superior visibility, will seat three to four crew members. Beneath the settee are full-sized chart drawers and additional storage.

But the most surprising feature of the N55’s pilothouse is its private stateroom complete with private head with washbasin and mirror/cabinet, and double-sized berth. Perfect for the off-watch crew on long passages, this area will also serve as a private guest stateroom.

Flybridge:

The Nordhavn 55 has been designed to incorporate a flying bridge as standard. Located directly over the pilothouse, it provides excellent visibility and is the ideal place to run the vessel in fair weather. “MV Skope” is fitted with the optional hard top which allows for protection from the elements as well as for mounting the extensive array of electronic aerials and radar arrays.
Additional flybridge features include:

  • Comfortable table and fixed settee with below seat storage

  • Massive storage area forward of helm position accessed by two hatches in console bulkhead

  • Two upgraded Stidd manual helm chairs, model 500-200

  • Fridge with freezer and sink in flybridge aft adjacent to stairs

  • 30″ destroyer type wheel

  • Navionics console with repeaters from pilothouse helm

  • Rumble seat aft to starboard

Galley:
With full-sized home-style appliances, abundant storage cabinets and generous counter space, the galley will please the most demanding chef. A granite top counter separates the galley from the salon, enabling direct contact between these areas. All appliances have been upgraded to have brushed S/S faces – charge is for the upgraded s/s finish for all appliances below:

Generous utility room forward of the engine room and accessed by the engine room stairs, features a Bosch automatic washing machine, Bosch clothes dryer, big volume top loading freezer, storage cupboards and drawers for linen, and H&C sink set in counter top.

Basement:

The basement is a forward machinery space, accessed via a hatch in guest cabin companionway.

Engine Room:
With a waterline of slightly more than 50 feet, the Nordhavn 55 has an efficient hull speed of 9.5 knots and under full load conditions, a range of 1500 nautical miles. The proven N55 hull form, a refinement of Nordhavn’s MFD (Modified Full Displacement) design, features fuller aft sections that reduce “squatting” when running at higher speeds. Added benefits include reduced pitching motion and increased stability.

Main propulsion is provided by a Lugger L1276A 340 hp diesel engine rated at continuous 1800 rpm. This engine turns a 3-inch A22 drive shaft via a 4:1 reduction transmission. This amount of reduction allows the prop to turn slowly, greatly reducing noise and vibration. A dry exhaust, a signature design element of most Nordhavns, eliminates the need for a large through-hull and raw water pump, via a proprietary Fernstrum grid cooler mounted in recess in hull underwater, hull greatly reducing the risk of failure at sea.
Additional engine room features:

  • Main Engine: Lugger L1276A. 2C/MG5091 – 340 hp @1800 continuous
