Exert from Nordhavn.com and Dan Streech

The Nordhavn 68 picks up where her iconic smaller sister, the Nordhavn 62, left off: a salty, seaworthy, aft-pilothouse yacht capable of offering extreme comfort, luxury and of course, capability. But the N68 incorporates a modern feel and better space planning, and perfectly fills the size gap that exists between the aft pilothouse N63 and the larger Nordhavn 76 in the current Nordhavn line-up.

“There are those who have great affection for the aft pilothouse boat and the 68 fits perfect among the 62, 63 and 76,” says PAE President Dan Streech.

The distinct styling of the 62 has been a Nordhavn hallmark for nearly twenty years, and the 68 captures the essence of this vessel yet it incorporates the latest thinking in design, systems and technology and packages it all into a beamier, heartier hull. The interior is stunning with modern styling and beautiful teak joiner work. And despite the size advantage, this vessel is just as easily managed by a cruising couple without need for captain and crew.

Overview

Margaret Jean is hull #34 in the Nordhavn 68 series and was completed in 2020 in North Palm Beach, FL. She has been lightly used and is as close to brand new as possible. After being commissioned in North Palm Beach, FL she was shipped to Dana Point, CA where she currently sits. She is an absolutely gorgeous vessel that is just itching to get out there on the seas. Margaret Jean is a three-cabin vessel with an additional day bunk in the wheelhouse. Nothing but the best was used throughout the entire vessel from appliances to machinery components. Since she was delivered she has been watched over and maintained by Nordhavn technicians and a local professional captain in Dana Point that has an extensive history with Nordhavn yachts of all sizes. This Nordhavn 68 is truly ready to go, all she needs is a new owner to enjoy her. The current owner of Margaret Jean had big plans and big dreams of cruising the world, however sometimes business gets in the way. Due to a thriving business, the sellers have not had a chance to use Margaret Jean as they had intended. This is a positive note for a buyer, since Margaret Jean only has a couple hundred hours on all systems, and is lightly used.

Specifications

Salon

The spacious and comfortable salon is equipped with a large varnished Italian Charco wood table on the starboard side. The plush built-in settee is wrapped in Ultraleather and is perfect for relaxing or dining. The table is mounted on polished stainless-steel pedestals with built-in slides to allow for easy entering and exiting the dinette settee. The port side of the salon has a built-in Utraleather settee with storage below and a loose leather reclining chair to match. The custom yard-built Italian Charco wood coffee table with storage below ties it all together. The flooring of the salon is finished off with varnished teak and ebony wood with loose carpet laid on top. The window treatments, carpet and soft goods were completed by Canvas Designers in West Palm beach, FL. The interior styling is more on the contemporary side (but not over-the-top) with varnished teak wood, Italian Charco wood used for furniture pieces and Maple wood used on horizontal surfaces. Above the wainscoting line the bulkhead is treated with a texted linen color wall covering which lightens up the interior spaces.

Galley

Forward of the salon is the galley off to the starboard side. This is truly a chef’s dream galley, with Sub-Zero refrigeration, Wolf and GE Monogram appliances. The contemporary styling of the galley is brought together by the quartz countertops and ceramic tile flooring. The galley is equipped with the following appliances:

  • Wolf Induction cooktop
  • Wolf 30″ electric wall oven
  • Wolf 30″ convection microwave
  • Wolf 30″ warming drawer
  • Sub-Zero wine cooler (below countertop)
  • Best Cattura down draft cooktop vent
  • GE Monogram 15″ trash compactor
  • Sub-Zero 42″ side by side fridge/freezer
  • Insinkerator garbage disposal

Master Cabin

The master cabin is just forward of the galley area. This beautiful cabin has much of the same contemporary styling found throughout the rest of the vessel. This cabin is fitted with a king bunk, custom wall covering, teak wood with a semi-gloss finish as well as teak and ebony hardwood flooring. There are three hanging lockers and two banks of drawers, one port and one starboard. Storage is not an issue in this cabin. There are two large rectangular fixed glass portlights on each side, which allow for great natural light. There are three opening Lewmar hatches in the overhead, again, great for natural light and ventilation. There is an inset LED TV on the forward bulkhead viewable from anywhere in the cabin. The master head is forward of the cabin and isolated through a solid teak wood door. This particular Nordhavn 68 does have his and her sinks which is a rare find. The quartz countertops are continued in the head as well as the ceramic tile flooring. The shower is off to the starboard side and is made of molded fiberglass and is accessed through a clear glass door. The toilet room is forward and isolated through a hinged solid teak wood door.

Guest Cabins

The two guest cabins and two guest heads are on the lower level of Margaret Jean with a center hallway in between. Each guest cabin has a private full head. The starboard VIP guest cabin has a queen bunk with teak wood and custom wall covering. The flooring in all cabins has been upgraded from carpet to teak and ebony wood. The port guest cabin has a full lower bunk and a twin upper bunk. Each cabin has a hanging locker and drawer storage as well as fixed portlights for natural light. Each cabin is fed fresh air through a blower system.

Laundry Room

The laundry room is on the lower level and is forward of the cabins. It contains a full size Asko washer machine and Asko dryer as well as ample storage lockers for lines, etc. The laundry room on Margaret Jean is accessed through a solid teak pocket door so this area can be closed off from guests.

Pilothouse

The pilothouse of Margaret Jean is simply stunning. The navigation and electronics package is state of the art with the most up-to-date systems out there. The layout of the pilothouse has been well thought out. There are two Stidd helm chairs at the dash. Behind the Stidd chairs is a ”U” shaped settee wrapped in Ultraleather, which is a very comfortable spot on long passages. Behind the settee is a day bunk that has a privacy curtain. Off the port side is an office area with a desk, file cabinets and room for computers, printers and manuals. There is a large drawer fridge/freezer on the side of the settee as well. The navigation equipment is extensive, and is a modern Furuno package with Simrad autopilot heads. One significant upgrade is the addition of a Maretron monitoring system installed during the build at the Ta Shing Shipyard. This allows the operator to monitor all vital components in one place, and alarms can be set and the system will send a notification of any issues via text message.

Exterior Spaces

Margaret Jean has comfortable and usable exterior spaces. Both safety and functionality were considered in the layout. Starting at the transom, the swim step has been extended, which is a great option that was done during the build. Shore cords on Glendinning systems are located here as well as a hot/cold fresh water shower. Moving forward to the cockpit, this area is spacious and great for entertaining. The built-in FRP settee will seat 7 to 8 guests and the high gloss teak table tops it all off. There are two electric BBQs in the cockpit console under a hinged FRP top to protect them from the elements. There is a fresh water sink and high capacity ice maker as well. There is a walkway down the starboard side leading to the foredeck. The foredeck holds a 2500-pound Steelhead telescoping davit which lifts a 17-foot Novorania tender with a 90hp Yamaha as well as an 11-foot AB ALX11 with a 9.9hp Yamaha. Access to the chain locker is forward on the foredeck as well as access to the anchor.

Aft of the foredeck is the Portuguese bridge area, and is accessed through a FRP door mounted on robust stainless steel pantograph hinges. This is a protected area allowing the operator to be outside while feeling safe and secure from the elements. There are port and starboard wing control stations as well on this level. There is access to the pilothouse on both sides through watertight Dutch doors. The new FRP door design on the 68 is a huge upgrade from the previous aluminum doors, so no more bubbling paint. Aft of the pilothouse is a large aft deck. This deck has a gorgeous high gloss teak table on high-low sliding pedestals. An extended FRP settee with cushions is the perfect place to cozy up and watch the sunset. The flybridge level is accessed through a staircase in the pilothouse. The flybridge has a comfortable “U” shaped settee with a high gloss teak table. There are two Stidd helm chairs at the dash and the (pilothouse) navigation equipment has been continued to this deck. It’s a great area to operate the vessel from or to sit and enjoy the 360-degree views at anchor. The flybridge is covered by a FRP hardtop.

Machinery

Margaret Jean’s machinery spaces are unbelievable. The engine room and lazarette are well laid out. All essential and non-essential components are easily accessible. The John Deere 6135 main engine easily pushes the vessel through the water at 8 knots while sipping fuel. The John Deere 4045 wing engine is a great back up and can move between 4 and 5 knots. The engine room and lazarette are surrounded by watertight bulkheads and sound insulation has proven to be quite important to the Nordhavn team. The vessel is quiet on all levels, from the lower cabin to the flybridge, and the gentle hum of the engine is nice and calming. There are many other components mounted in the engine room and lazarette such as the watermakers, water heater, pumps and much more. The ABT hydraulic system enables easy maneuvering. Hydraulic bow and stern thrusters, hydraulic crash pumps, hydraulic windlass, and hydraulic anchor wash are a must on a vessel of this caliber. The ABT TRAC stabilizers allow for a calm ride in the most adverse conditions.

Engine/Generator Hours:
  • Main engine:  173 hours
  • Wing engine:  43 hours
  • 12kw Generator:  150 hours
  • 25kw Generator:  180 hours

Margaret Jean is available now and ready to set sail. Just add your belongings, water toys, a bit of fuel and go. New adventures await…
