Eyeing the N71 or N80? The timing couldn’t be more perfect.

Two of Nordhavn’s new models are having a moment right now, and now might the best time for anyone who has considered investing in either of these designs, to strike. A perfect storm of scheduling combined with order realignment has resulted in a shortening of production lead times for the next available hulls of the Nordhavn 71 and 80 models. And that should be music to the ears of anyone who has sat stymied by the exaggerated wait times of the Covid-era boating frenzy.

Fresh off its nomination for Best Yacht Design (under 25 meters) in the 2024 International Yacht and Aviation Awards, the Nordhavn 80 is capturing the eyes of many. She was Nordhavn’s most searched model last year and the collaboration with Dutch naval architecture firm Vripack on the N80’s interior design has helped elevate her to status symbol levels of sorts: in its most recent edition, Boat International magazine named the model one of the best yachts between 40 and 80 feet.

Her seamless blend of superyacht sophistication and manageability makes her extremely attractive to anyone looking for a roomy, elegant and seaworthy yacht with minimal crew required, and at an especially economical price point. And now, not only is her price tag reflective of a smaller yacht, her lead time could be as well. The buyer of the next available N80, #6, will see construction of the hull commence within two months of signing a contract. This shrinks the boat’s overall lead time almost in half. “Right now, the delivery time for N8006 is considerably short,” said Nordhavn President Dan Streech. “It’s a gem of a situation for a buyer – who is ready now – to take advantage of.”

The same could be said about a Nordhavn 71 chance that’s cropped up for the taking.

The N71 represents the latest and greatest of what Nordhavn designs embody in the 2020s. And now, a rare opportunity to grab an early production spot has arisen with the availability of Hull #5, which is due to complete at the factory in October 2025. It’s unusual for newer models to have availability within the first 10 hull spots, and says Streech, it will be a case of “right time, right place” for one fortunate individual who is able to snatch it up.

When the second Nordhavn 71 arrives in California in just a few weeks to undergo commissioning, Project manager Justin Zumwalt says those who see her will fall in love with her modern aesthetic and resounding spaciousness. Like all Nordhavns, the 71 gives the sense that you’re stepping on to a much bigger boat, yet she’s designed to be owner operated. It’s a brand trait that attracts adventuresome yachts-men and -women who want to host guests and captain their own ship.

The N71 is the revered big sister in the production-style sector (which includes the 41, 51 and 625) of Nordhavn’s passagemaking line-up. While providing some room for customizations, the N71’s spec is more complete and motivates a streamlined build process in both time and cost. Because of this, plus her striking good looks and performance, Streech believes the N71 is on track to be the brand’s most popular design in the upper end of the size range.
