Long before the first Lugger-powered Nordhavn roamed the seven seas, there was the Mason sailboat. Masons launched PAE and were an integral part of the brainstorming discussions that brought Nordhavns to life. In fact, the knowledge and experience gained through the production and design of our Mason line was key to the development of the Nordhavn 56 Motorsailer.
It brings a smile to our face when we read about happy Mason owners still making excellent journies on their yachts – many of whom can claim decades of ownership. Certainly, the average number of years a Mason sailboat buyer keeps his boat far exceeds that of the average Nordhavn owner. There are many factors that go into this, but one can’t overlook the loyalty some Mason owners have toward their boats. And who can blame them? The Mason design was – and continues to be – a classic. The fine teak hardwoods, styling, and craftsmanship of the Ta Shing yard are still appreciated today as much as they were during Mason’s heyday in the 1970s and ’80s. So it’s no surprise that a Mason sailboat owners’ online community has been established. If you are a current owner, former owner, or Mason fan, you are invited to join http://groups.yahoo.com/group/PAE_Mason_sailboat_owners. Here you will find like-minded individuals who’d prefer nothing more than to gab about Mason sailboats all day…unless, of course, they’re out to sea on a Mason sailboat.
