Overview
The Nordhavn 40 is distinguished for its sea keeping ability, awesome range and impressive fuel economy. And, of course, Nordhavn’s legendary robust construction and beautiful teak finishing.
SEA BROWSER is perfectly suited to our Northwest waters with its pilothouse design, the recent addition of a Kabola hydronic heating system and a nice suite of Furuno navigational electronics.
When describing a Nordhavn, what can one say that has not already been well stated elsewhere? Always true to their engineering and design principles of ruggedness, reliability, and safety, Nordhavn set the standard allowing a pleasure craft to cruise the world’s oceans in comfort and safety.
And that standard was set high: Nordhavns are robust in construction, and in support systems, and interiors are crafted with excellent joinery.
The addition of the optional (and super-useful!) swim platform gives SEA BROWSER a well-proportioned look. She makes full use of her interior living spaces with plenty of storage for extended times aboard. Everything in its place. The feeling on board is one of practicality, functionality, and livability.
SEA BROWSER is an ideal yacht for the cruising couple, who want the reliability of a serious vessel, and the ability to cruise in comfort for long distances, or for extended periods living aboard. Capable of crossing oceans (N40-21 is the famous “Around The World” yacht), she is also wonderfully suited to cruising our home waters around the San Juans, Gulf Islands, or up and down the coast.
Being Hull 48 of a very successful run, SEA BROWSER is well-proven and ready for the next adventure. She is stone reliable, incredibly efficient and able to journey over 2,500 NM between fuel stops.
SEA BROWSER is a Canadian-registered vessel with Canadian duty paid, and is held in an LLC, which is eligible for a share transfer. Hence for a qualified Canadian buyer, no duty, GST or PST is payable. We advise a buyer to consult a lawyer experienced in this area for guidance. This represents a potential savings of approximately $67,000 CAD for a Canadian buyer. A USA buyer could simply purchase the asset of the LLC (the boat) and import, although US Customs duty will have to be paid upon importation to the USA, along with the added China tariff currently in place. However, a USA buyer could also purchase and keep the boat in British Columbia, enjoying the same purchase benefits as a Canadian buyer, not to mention the better cruising grounds throughout maritime BC. Please inquire for further details.
Throughout SEA BROWSER
Begin your visit by boarding the cockpit by way of the starboard side door from the dock, or the transom door from the swim platform. The cockpit is cozy but affords room for peaceful morning coffee, afternoon fishing, or of course, evening gin and tonics.
Enter via the beefy Dutch door to the salon with adjacent galley forward and to port. Down centerline steps to the accommodations area with guest cabin to port, head with shower stall to starboard, and master cabin forward.
The engine room is accessed from a watertight door in the guest cabin’s aft bulkhead.
Back in the salon, to the right of the accommodations stairs down, are stairs up to the pilothouse with port and starboard doors to the side decks, boat deck, and foredeck.
Whether guests are sitting or standing, all areas of the main and pilothouse decks afford outstanding views.
Except for the accommodations companionway, the cabin sole throughout is teak. Interior finishing is high quality teak with a good build up of satin varnish. The refined joinery and finish is one of the hallmark changes in these newer Mark II versions of the Nordhavn 40s. Most interior lighting has been upgraded to LED.
Accommodations
Accommodations are in two staterooms with the master forward and the guest cabin midships and to port.
The master cabin has an island queen berth. There are two hanging lockers and a multitude of other lockers and drawers. Everything has a place. Natural light and ventilation through two opening port lights with storm covers, and an opening overhead hatch with screen and privacy shade. There is a small settee to starboard with storage underneath. Overhead lighting in addition to two individually controlled reading lights.
Teak joinery, and finishing throughout is typical.
The guest cabin is to port with two bunks, the lower one being convertible to a wide configuration. There are two drawers under the lower bunk, reading lights, overhead lights, and two opening portlights. Laundry is located in another locker within this cabin, and there is a door in the aft bulkhead to the machinery space and engine room.
The head is amidships and to starboard. There are two opening portlights, storage in three lockers, plus a medicine locker, and a large shower stall with a teak grate seat, and a watertight locker.
- Granite counter top
- Vacuflush marine toilet
- Exhaust fan on timer
- PUR water filter
- Heated towel rack
Salon
The salon, galley and dining areas are configured in the same area as you enter from the cockpit. To starboard is a good-sized built-in settee with table, storage below, and to port, a fore and aft facing dinette, also with storage below, and with a custom teak table. This really enhances the salon’s entertaining and lounging capability, and if necessary, up to seven can dine together in the salon.
Opening windows all around, with screens and storm plates.
- Water-tight, extra wide Dutch door from cockpit to salon
- 42” LG TV on motorized lift, hiding the TV when not in use
- Marantz amplifier / receiver

Galley
The galley is U-shaped with an extended bullnose bending forward making the galley a large yet secure workspace. There is abundant storage in numerous drawers and lockers, and two opening port lights for natural light and fresh air, and ventilation.

- Swanstone double sink
- Novakool refrigerator
- Subzero freezer
- Princess Seaward three-burner gas stove with oven
- GE microwave oven
- Krushr trash compactor
Pilothouse
Up four steps from the salon, the pilothouse can be said to be the heart of the vessel, with controls, navigation, communication, and monitoring close at hand.
One of the defining features of these newer Nordhavn 40s is the larger pilothouse windows, improving not only visibility, and hence safety, but also, the larger windows improve the look of the vessel. And of course, these afford expansive views in almost a 270-degree area for relaxing and enjoying the seascapes and for safety when docking, maneuvering, or watching for logs and other debris while underway.
The pilothouse settee and table is a comfortable space from which to take in these views. It is a preferred space for owners and guests, whether underway or at rest.
- In lieu of a pilot berth, there is a broad teak bookshelf behind the settee
- Opening overhead hatch
- Storage in a bank of drawers, and in lockers under helm area and under settee
To port and starboard are heavy aluminum Dutch doors to the side decks, foredeck, and aft to the boat deck.
Main Deck
The soft two-tone inlaid non-skid in the decks reduces glare.
The cockpit is not large, but there is room to fish, or for a couple of teak chairs. And there are two molded seats aft. There is a boarding gate aft to the swim platform, and another starboard for stepping off to a dock. The addition of the optional swim platform not only adds balance and proportion to the boat’s lines, but of course, it also serves getting people and gear in and out of the tender much more easily and safely. At a dock, with the swim platform addition, the boat can be docked to port or starboard, with easy boarding from either side.
- Very large storage lazarette
- Stainless steel boarding ladder
- Freshwater wash downs in cockpit and on foredeck
- Cockpit shower
- Two foredeck storage lockers

The port and starboard side decks are accessed from the pilothouse doors.
Going forward is the Portuguese bridge, appreciated by the seasoned sailor for added protection from breaking seas.
Boat Deck
Out the starboard side pilothouse door to the side deck, and aft up a few steps to SEA BROWSER’s boat deck. Here is the tender, and crane, and more room for other optional cruising toys and needs like kayaks, crabbing and prawning gear, liferaft, etc.
- 10′ AB 10AL aluminum RIB tender
- Removable Weaver tender chocks and tie downs
- Yamaha 15MSHA 2-stroke 15 hp outboard
- Forespar masts, booms and rigging
- The mast is hinged for lowering to boat shed storage, or for transiting under lower bridges. However, a rigging system needs to be developed to safely lower the mast and stack (the stack has a flexible piece allowing it to also be lowered with the mast)
- Electric winch on boom for deploying and retrieving tender
- Stainless steel and PVC coated wire safety railing all around
