Tom and Jan Newman will take delivery of their N41 in Turkey spring of 2022. Their plans are to spend a couple of years exploring the Mediterranean Sea and the canals of Europe before sailing their boat back to U.S. waters on her own bottom. In preparation of the journey and operating in international waters, they enrolled in RYA (Royal Yachting Association) classes in the U.K. Both passed with flying colors or colours as they say across the pond.
To further ready themselves for European cruising, they chartered a 50-foot sailboat and explored around the Greek Islands for a week. This gave them a great chance to scope out places to visit when they return with their N41. While sailing, their captain taught them the art of Mediterranean mooring, which is the primary means of securing one’s boat to the small ports and quays in the Med.
Next stop: Istanbul! The Newmans had a tour of the factory and got to see their hull, number “sweet 16”. The tour was very informative, productive, and exciting. There are a lot of small things that have been done on previous hulls that were shared with them. But, as with all N41s, the bulk of the boat has been beautifully outfitted by PAE, which takes the guessing game out of options selection for buyers (not to mention keeps costs down and streamlines the build process.)
While in Turkey they had a chance to visit the local chandlers and see what’s available to totally fit out their boat. They are looking forward to casting off, and I’m looking forward to that day as well since I have an invitation to join them when I can!
