This morning Red Rover left Bahia del Sol, El Salvador. The marina is in an estuary and there is a bar crossing to get in and out. A pilot boat leads the way, with the company of an amazing gentleman, Bill. Bill is a local expat, former cruiser and self-described Campground Host. He and his wife Jean are amazing. Bill is a steady and reassuring voice on the VHF, providing directions as you work your way in and out.
This morning the bar was pretty calm and while there were waves breaking off to our port and starboard, it was fine in front of us in the channel. Suddenly the panga pilot boat veered hard to port and Bill’s voice told us to “just hold” for these waves. And so we did! In waves breaking on our bow.
I have been doing a silly little experiment. A few weeks ago, a roll of paper towels ended up above the teak surround around our master stateroom tv. I have been waiting to see what makes it fall. Not even this. This boat is so incredibly stable. And quite still in the center of the boat.
All is well in the Good Ship Red Rover and another pot of coffee is brewing.
