Award caps off impressive weekend for Nordhavn in San Diego
Nordhavn capped off an impressive weekend in San Diego at Passagemaker Magazine’s Trawler Fest by taking home the People’s Choice award for favorite boat at the event. Attendees of the three-day boat show held November 10-12 picked Nordhavn 55 Moana Kuewa as the boat that impressed them the most of all the vessels on exhibit. Moana Kuewa was part of Nordhavn’s three-boat display that included a Nordhavn 56 M/S and a brand new Nordhavn 40. With nearly 60 hulls sold, the Nordhavn 55 remains one of the brand’s most popular models to date, thanks in part to the singular level living it offers and spacious engine room.
What made Moana Kuewa, in particular, so appealing to folks at Trawler Fest? Salesman Eric Leishman expressed his thoughts: “She shows as nicely as she cruises. The boat is furnished with high-gloss cherry wood interior, is exquisitely appointed and has been meticulously maintained by the owner/operator who happens to be a woman. The boat has been all over the world – across the Atlantic Ocean, throughout Europe and the South Pacific, and Australia. Yet you’d never know it – she really shines. Aside from her logbook, the only clues to her world cruising past are the extensive electronics, spares and redundant equipment she has been outfitted with.”
San Diego marks the final show of the Trawler Fest 2011 season and Nordhavn’s presence was felt everywhere. The company was recently named in Passage Maker’s 100th Anniversary issue as one of the most influential companies of the trawler industry and members of the Nordhavn community played key roles in the exhibition and seminar features of Trawler Fest as well. Salesman Jeff Merrill out of Nordhavn’s Southwest office gave two presentations, one on Purchasing a Trawler, the other on Enjoying Our Trawler; while Nordhavn 43 owner Christi Grab debuted her second book The Unexpected Circumnavigation – Unusual Boat, Unusual People Part 2: Australia to Oman. Christi also revealed that she is finishing up on a new workbook called “Recipe for Success: What My Cruising Will Cost Me”. As suggested by the title, the book is “designed to help people figure out a cruising budget,” said Christi, who hopes this latest effort will be out by the end of the year.
Adding further exuberance to the weekend’s activities was the launch of two brand new Nordhavns – a glorious N86 and N68 – which were offloaded at the nearby Port of San Diego.
