It’s been only 18 months since Nordhavn’s European office opened, and the UK base at Hamble Point Marina – just outside Southampton – is proving to be one of the most active places in the harbor with six Nordhavns in dock.
Rover, a Nordhavn 62, arrived in Hamble recently for her second visit, having completed extensive world cruising since 2001. Owners John & Gail Maloney have the most fascinating stories to tell including assisting and befriending some Sri Lankan villagers who were affected by the 2004 tsunami. This-well traveled couple have spent the last year circumnavigating the UK and Ireland before returning to Nordhavn Europe’s base on the Solent.
The European service centre is busy working on N46 Resolution, which is undergoing routine maintenance and service work, in preparation for her summer adventures around the Mediterranean. (Click here to read more about Resolution’s journeys.)
N46 Stargazer has also arrived in Hamble, having taken part in the Nordhavn Atlantic Rally in Summer 2004. Stargazer has travelled extensively around Europe, from the Mediterranean to the Baltic. She is now undergoing some maintenance work prior to being shipped back to our sister office in Newport, Rhode Island.
N47 Edna Rose was recently handed over to her proud new owner, a UK resident, who has decided to keep his boat moored at the Nordhavn European base, which is ideally situated to access the popular cruising grounds of the Solent, Isle of Wight, Channel Isles and even the occasional long weekend in France.
Fresh from an impressive showing at the Düsseldorf Boat Show is a brand new Nordhavn 40/II. Hull number 52 in the series withstood long lines of interested cruisers clambering to get on board and the enthusiasm continues now that she is here in Hamble and providing sea trials for potential owners from all over Europe.
N57 hull 40, one of the first European specification Nordhavns to be built, is undergoing some customization and having a state of the art electronics package installed prior to being handed over to her new owners.
Trawler yachts are such a new concept in Europe; boaters are prepared to travel hundreds of miles for the chance to step aboard a European Nordhavn.
