Dana Point, CA – (November 25, 2009) – Nordhavn is pleased to announce that the renowned 57-footer, Bagan, which took owner Sprague Theobald safely through the Northwest Passage, will be a feature exhibit at the 2010 Seattle Boat Show January 29-February 6. Bagan will be showcased at the event’s in-water -location at South Lake Union and highlights will include tours of Bagan given by members of the crew responsible for bringing the vessel across the Arctic Circle – a feat accomplished by very few private boats.
Aside from seeking out great adventure, Theobald’s mission for conquering the elusive passage was to document the little-explored area – which he did with incredible underwater photography as well as with recording and editing equipment custom outfitted in Bagan’s pilothouse. The Emmy-award winning film producer/director is in the process of making final edits to his movie Braving The Northwest Passage which is currently being eyed by some television networks for broadcast considerations. But visitors to the boat can get a sneak preview; trailers of the film will be on hand for anyone who comes aboard.
Throughout the week at the Qwest Field Center, site of the Seattle Boat Show’s indoor demonstrations, guests will be treated to an in-depth discussion on Theobald’s Northwest Passage journey where he’ll focus on the craziest, scariest and most exhilarating moments. (For future reference, one never becomes accustomed to the cacophony of the constantly moving icebergs. Think fingernails on a chalkboard 24/7.) About 60,000 visitors are expected through the gates of the Seattle Boat Show, the West Coast’s largest boat show. Approximately 500 recreational watercraft and accessories exhibits will be on hand at the show’s two locations: indoors at Qwest Field Event Center, plus afloat on South Lake Union. Bagan will be one of an estimated 100 boats in the water.
“This is going to be a lot of fun, and a very cool addition to our show,” said Bonnie Bergquist, executive director of the Northwest Yacht Brokers Association, co-producer (along with the Northwest Marine Trade Association) of the Seattle Boat Show. “It will be a prime opportunity for people to meet a great adventurer as well as learn more about the obscure Arctic cruising grounds”, added Bergquist.
