The Nordhavn 40/II is taking Europe by storm. PAE’s smallest and most versatile cruiser has been in Nordhavn’s Hamble Point offices for well over a month getting outfitted and commissioned for her big debut at the Dusseldorf Boat Show in two weeks.
The Nordhavn 40/II, now simply called Nordhavn 40, left last weekend for the 430 nm journey from Hamble Point marina to Dusseldorf, Germany. It will be a great first test for the boat, said Nordhavn’s European sales director Neil Russell. “The weather can be rough this time of the year, so we’ll get a good feel of her handling abilities.” Joining Neil for the trip will be a journalist from Motorboat & Yachting who is eager to see if the 40 can match the ride of her bigger sisters, the Nordhavn 47 and 57 – both of which have been tested by European marine publications. The delivery may be a bit bumpy, but the crew will still travel in luxury with the roomy dual settee arrangement of the 40’s saloon, granite countertops and fine teak woodwork. The 40/II, which was introduced in the U.S. one year ago, was reconfigured from the original model and includes many materials upgrades, bigger windows for greater visibility and more creature comforts.
Interest in the 40/II has been building since the first Nordhavn 40 hit Europe last year at the end of the Nordhavn Atlantic Rally. Updated and repackaged, the new 40/II has generated lots of excitement from European boat enthusiasts. “We expect lots of European customers to travel to Dusseldorf to see her,” said salesman Phillip Roach.
