Nordhavn’s popular Distance Pennant Program was created to recognize the many Nordhavn owners and their great accomplishments of traveling the world’s oceans and enjoying the adventures of a lifetime. It is interesting to note that the average miles traveled is a little under half of a circumnavigation for each registered owner. Our goal is to reach 100 percent registration of all Nordhavns built and enter all of the miles traveled by previous owners.
From the earliest days of the age of sail up to the present time, the history of flags and the history of the sea have been intertwined. From at least the early 19th century, it has been the custom of ships returning from a long overseas deployment to fly an extra long commission pennant made up of whatever bunting could be assembled.
In the Royal Navy, this is known as the “paying off pennant” because a ship used to be taken out of commission and its crew “paid off” at the end of each cruise. In the United States Navy, it is called the homeward-bound pennant. Although not officially sanctioned by regulations, the Navy has issued guidelines for the use of this pennant in NTP-13(B), Flags, Pennants and Customs.

The first level is 2,500 miles. Subsequent pennants will be issued in additional 5,000 nm increments. Each will be a different color. No matter how the miles were accrued: one long trip, 50 short cruises or even if you have owned multiple Nordhavns, it’s the total miles accumulated that we are interested in.

| Voyage Details | Voyage started in Florida, traveled to Connecticut, back to Florida. Carriacou and cleared customs in Hillsborough and anchored in Tyrrel Bay before moving on to Grenada. Chagaramous St Barth’s to Antigua, the historical Falmouth and English Harbors of Antigua to Trinidad, Venezuelan Islands, the ABCs. Los Testigos was our entry point to Venezuela. Bonaire, Isla Tortuga at Playa Caldera which is a gorgeous low island with beautiful water and beaches. Curacao was a bit disappointing after our stay in Bonaire. Grenadines , St. Lucia with an overnight stop at the magnificent Pitons island of Bequia Trinidad, Dominica, Pitons and then onto the Grenadines. Mustique, Canouan, Palm Island, Union Island and Petit St Vincent. Aruba,The ABC Islands are a far better choice than Trinidad for the summer months. Bonaire was our first stop once we left the Venezuelan Islands. We stayed in Bonaire about a week and will definitely return one day. San Blas Islands and meeting the Kuna Indians. Cartagena, Colombia. Panama Canal Golfito, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Gulf of Tehuantepec, Huatulco, Mexico. Puerto Vallarta, from Huatulco was a visit to the seaside town of Puerto Escondido, home to the Mexican Pipeline (for those of you who surf) and may great Palapa Restaurants along the beach. Zihuatanejo, Manzanillo, Barra Navidad, Puerto Vallarta. La Paz, Mexico which is on the Baja and the Sea of Cortez. Then to Ensenada. San Diego, to Dana Point after 5 years. San Luis, San Simeon to anchor below the Hearst Castle, Monterey, Half Moon Bay & San Francisco to Seattle. Friday Harbor and Vancouver, Ketchikan, Alaska, back to Seattle In 2009 we traveled with 2 other Nordhavns, Grey Pearl and Sans Souci, to Alaska, the Aleutians Islands , Siberia, and on to Japan. After that, grey Pearl and Seabird cruised to Taiwan, Hong Kong and then on to the Philippines, Borneo and Singapore. We then cruised to Thailand. Because of the Somalia issues, we chose to ship the boat from Thailand to Turkey, where we met up with Sans Souci again and cruised to Greece and Croatia |
