Nordhavn’s popular Distance Pennant Program was created to recognize the many Nordhavn owners and their great accomplishments of traveling the world’s oceans and enjoying the adventures of a lifetime. It is interesting to note that the average miles traveled is a little under half of a circumnavigation for each registered owner. Our goal is to reach 100 percent registration of all Nordhavns built and enter all of the miles traveled by previous owners.
From the earliest days of the age of sail up to the present time, the history of flags and the history of the sea have been intertwined. From at least the early 19th century, it has been the custom of ships returning from a long overseas deployment to fly an extra long commission pennant made up of whatever bunting could be assembled.
In the Royal Navy, this is known as the “paying off pennant” because a ship used to be taken out of commission and its crew “paid off” at the end of each cruise. In the United States Navy, it is called the homeward-bound pennant. Although not officially sanctioned by regulations, the Navy has issued guidelines for the use of this pennant in NTP-13(B), Flags, Pennants and Customs.

The first level is 2,500 miles. Subsequent pennants will be issued in additional 5,000 nm increments. Each will be a different color. No matter how the miles were accrued: one long trip, 50 short cruises or even if you have owned multiple Nordhavns, it’s the total miles accumulated that we are interested in.

| Voyage Details | The anticipation of retirement as live aboards on a Nordhavn began many years ago. The anticipation of realizing the dream provided us with many years of research and beautiful trips as we continued to work and watch Nordhavn's new innovations and the successes of so many "Nordhavn Believers!" The Tesoro life began in Cabo San Lucas, MX one year ago with the help of PAE standout, Devin Zwick and has continued through 10 months in the Sea of Cortez. Time was much too short in the beautiful warm waters of the SOC but with COVID striking so cruelly and soon to expire passports, we had to say a temporary goodbye. After a very quick but beautiful cruise up the coast, we realized why heading south is called the "Haha" and north is the called the "Bash." However, there was no reason to worry as Tesoro lived up to the Nordhavn legacy (the crew-maybe not so much. We're still scrubbing coffee stains off the headliner and carpet of the helm !) We now find ourselves in Coos Bay, Oregon at the Charleston Harbor Marine Complex amidst a village of fishing trawlers. We couldn't find nicer people! They work so very hard and are more than willing to help with local knowledge and other items---like fresh crab!!! And what else but yesterday, Dan Streech and his beautiful wife Marcia yell a hardy "Hello, Nordhavn" from the dock and we were honored to have them aboard even if for a short time. It's feeling very good to be a part of this family! After having lived in Vermont for 23 years, the crew is a tiny bit divided on heading north versus south....after 36 years together, perhaps we can work through this as well. Stay tuned.
