Nordhavn’s popular Distance Pennant Program was created to recognize the many Nordhavn owners and their great accomplishments of traveling the world’s oceans and enjoying the adventures of a lifetime. It is interesting to note that the average miles traveled is a little under half of a circumnavigation for each registered owner. Our goal is to reach 100 percent registration of all Nordhavns built and enter all of the miles traveled by previous owners.

History of the Pennant

From the earliest days of the age of sail up to the present time, the history of flags and the history of the sea have been intertwined. From at least the early 19th century, it has been the custom of ships returning from a long overseas deployment to fly an extra long commission pennant made up of whatever bunting could be assembled.

 

In the Royal Navy, this is known as the “paying off pennant” because a ship used to be taken out of commission and its crew “paid off” at the end of each cruise. In the United States Navy, it is called the homeward-bound pennant. Although not officially sanctioned by regulations, the Navy has issued guidelines for the use of this pennant in NTP-13(B), Flags, Pennants and Customs.

Rules

It is really very simple. Just click here to register and then submit your contact information in the required fields and list your trips with full details about your travels –including the number of miles covered.

 

In return, not only will your accomplishments be listed for all who visit this website to be impressed by, you will receive a complimentary Nordhavn Distance Pennant. Let the world know your Nordhavn is more than just a great-looking vessel. You and your Nordhavn have done what others dare not.

 

The first level is 2,500 miles. Subsequent pennants will be issued in additional 5,000 nm increments. Each will be a different color. No matter how the miles were accrued: one long trip, 50 short cruises or even if you have owned multiple Nordhavns, it’s the total miles accumulated that we are interested in.

Ft. Pierce FL to Stuart Fl and return to FT Pierce. Took the kids outside for a short taste of life aboard...too rough for them soo down the ICW to Peck Lake where all could enjoy flat water but near a beach for T'giving.Sent them home day after then hung around the area (Jensen Beach)'til haul out for much needed bottom work...put Placeforus on the hard for a month.11/18/07 ..12/11/07.
Ft.Pierce FL to Stuart FL via ICW. Splashed Placeforus on 1/11/08, headed to Jensen Beach for a few days on the hook there then on to Stuart Southpoint anchorage, hung on a mooring there awaiting a weather window to cross to Bahamas. 1/11/08..1/31/08.
Stuart FL to West End Bahamas. Our first crossing taught us a lot about wind and current effect. wind se at 12 picked up to 20 in the night,combined with a se track made for a slow crossing in confused seas,took 16 hrs to make it but arrived safe and sound at Old Bahama Bay at 0900,checked in and spent the nite in peace there. Nice people..great place. 1/31/08..2/2/08.
West End Bahamas to Green Turtle Cay anchoring at Great Sale Cay,Double Breasted Cay,got our first taste of beautiful clear Bahamian waters and out island hospitality..wonderful!Moved on anchoring at Foxtown,Crab Cay,Powell Cay then off of Green Turtle to check out Marina in Black Sound courtesy of a 43 sistership dinghy from Australia...we took a slip at Black Sound Marina,spent some shore time in that magical place.Good re-provisioning and restaurants as well.2/4/08..2/13/08.
Green Turtle to Marsh Harbour Bahamas.anchoring at Crab Cay for a day of beach exploring and snorkleing,then thru Whale Passage to Marsh,found a good spot in that anchorage,made some new friends from Arkansas. We took several side trips with them to Hopetown,Man o war Cay and Guana Cay.2/16/08..3/5/08.
Guana Cay to Treasure Cay Bahamas,our new friends,Jim & Marie talked us into a slip at Treasure Cay Marina,had some more good times with them,toured the area,re-provisioned,and had a birthday party for Kathy.3/5/08..3/9/08.
Treasure Cay to West Palm Beach FL. time to head home! Whale passage was a little stirred up this time(4-6')no problem for our little ship tho'.Anchored at Nunjack Cay then Great Sale before crossing the stream,left Great Sale at 0400 hit the crossing at 1130 (much better)arrived at Palm Beach 2200,anchored for the nite checked in with customs.3/11/08..3/12/08.
