Nordhavn’s popular Distance Pennant Program was created to recognize the many Nordhavn owners and their great accomplishments of traveling the world’s oceans and enjoying the adventures of a lifetime. It is interesting to note that the average miles traveled is a little under half of a circumnavigation for each registered owner. Our goal is to reach 100 percent registration of all Nordhavns built and enter all of the miles traveled by previous owners.
From the earliest days of the age of sail up to the present time, the history of flags and the history of the sea have been intertwined. From at least the early 19th century, it has been the custom of ships returning from a long overseas deployment to fly an extra long commission pennant made up of whatever bunting could be assembled.
In the Royal Navy, this is known as the “paying off pennant” because a ship used to be taken out of commission and its crew “paid off” at the end of each cruise. In the United States Navy, it is called the homeward-bound pennant. Although not officially sanctioned by regulations, the Navy has issued guidelines for the use of this pennant in NTP-13(B), Flags, Pennants and Customs.

The first level is 2,500 miles. Subsequent pennants will be issued in additional 5,000 nm increments. Each will be a different color. No matter how the miles were accrued: one long trip, 50 short cruises or even if you have owned multiple Nordhavns, it’s the total miles accumulated that we are interested in.

| Voyage Details | 2012 - Seattle , Astoria, Sidney, Ketchikan, Sitka, Glacier Bay, Juneau, Sidney 2013 - Sidney, Ketchikan, Wrangel, Craig, west coast of Queen Charlotte Islands, west coast of Vancouver Islands, Dana Point, La Paz, Sea of Cortez 2014 - Sea of Cortez, San Diego , Dana Point, Sidbey, Port McNeill, Pruth Bay, Desolation Sound, Sidney 2015 - Sidney, Ketchikan, Wrangell, west side of Dall Island, West coast of the Queen Charlotte Islands, Dana Point, La Paz, Sea of Cortes 2016 - Sea of Cortes including the North end to Bahia de Los Angeles, San Carlos, La Paz 2017 - La Paz , Topolobampo, Mazatlan, Puerto Vallarta, 2018 - New Zealand 2021 - After taking ownership in Ketchikan, we traveled north to Juneau, west to Cape Spencer, spent 2 months on the west coast of SE Alaska, back to Ketchikan, then south to Prince Rupert and spent a month cruising the inside passage to Sidney BC. 2022 - We traveled from Victoria, inside passage , SE Alaska, Prince William Sound and back. Approx 5,250 miles, for a total to date of 41,250 miles. 2023 - Departed Victoria B.C. on March 14th up the inside passage to Wrangell Alaska. S.E. Alaska, until mid-June, then back south to Prince Rupert. Cruised west to Masset. We spent a month on the west side of Haida Gwaii and up the east side to Sandspit. We crossed Hecate Strait to St. John’s Harbor and then traveled south to Port Hardy B.C. Spent several weeks on the west side of Vancouver Island and arrived back to Victoria, B.C. on September 2nd. Approximately 3,400 miles for a total of 44,650 miles. |
