TERMS & CONDITIONS:
Winners will be chosen by the “jury”, a volunteer panel made up of industry professionals, Nordhavn owners (not participating in the contest) and cruising enthusiasts. Individuals will submit their videos from which the jury will determine singular winners in three categories, Best Action/Adventure/Comedy, Best Documentary/Informational, and Best Cinematography, each one earning a cash prize of $2,500. The jury will determine a “Top 10” from all submissions, each of which will be debuted at the 2nd Nordhavn Film Festival, October 15, 2022 in Dana Point, CA. A vote by all audience members in attendance will determine the Grand Prize “Viewers’ Choice” award of $10,000. Deadline for video submissions is September 9th. Finalists will be notified by September 21st.
Event is open to anyone who can produce a quality video not to exceed 10 minutes in length about adventure cruising on a Nordhavn. Videos that do not meet the length, deadline, format, and/or quality requirements will be ruled ineligible. Shortly after a video link is submitted, a notification will be sent indicating the eligibility/nomination status of the film. Contest is open to anyone who is not an employee or relative of PAE’s staff or anyone on the judging panel. At least 25% of the footage needs to be new or never-seen. All video is eligible regardless of date taken, and if previously posted, needs to be presented in a completely unique way. All videos will be judged equally regardless of professional production assistance. Final videos must not be made public or shared. Once a video is submitted, PAE maintains the rights to post and use for promotional purposes.
ATTENDANCE:
Attendance to the Nordhavn Film Festival is reserved for anyone submitting a qualifying video plus one guest. The awards ceremony will follow a black-tie dinner and film screening. Any leftover tickets will be made available to the public to be claimed on a first come-first serve basis. An announcement regarding available tickets will be made at a later date.
Judging Criteria
Film Festival entrants should bear in mind the criteria listed below on which Judges will base their voting decisions. After judges have voted and deliberated, they will determine the winner of each category. (Film entries do not have to identify which category they fall under. The judges will determine this.)
STORYLINE – Does the story flow? Is it emotive and descriptive? Is there a logical start, middle and end?
CHARACTERS – Are the characters relatable? Do we feel for them? Do we root for them or not root for them? Are we sympathetic or angry or inspired? (All are OK as long as a feeling is provoked!)
NORDHAVN THEME – Does the story promote the Nordhavn lifestyle/brand? Does it do it in a thoughtful, creative way?
REPRESENTATION – How are people represented in the story? Men, women and children; owners and crew; people met along the way who are integral to the enjoyment of a destination.
FOOTAGE QUALITY – How clear is the picture and sound quality?
EDITING – Do scenes seamlessly connect in a logical order? Are shots too long or too short? Are different techniques/angles used?
CRITERIA SPECIFIC TO CATEGORIES:
COMEDY – Is the film entertaining and purposely and cleverly makes you laugh out loud on several occasions? Do the comedic events make sense to the storyline?
DOCUMENTARY/INFORMATIONAL – Is the information conveyed done so in an interesting way? Is the subject matter new and interesting or uniquely presented?
CINEMATOGRAPHY – Film producers should take a cue from sweeping epics with scenery that takes your breath away; interesting use of drones; landscapes, terrain, oceans captured from unique perspectives.
