Total Nordhavn Boats: 630

Total Nordhavn Mileage: 9,167,741

Nordhavn’s popular Distance Pennant Program was created to recognize the many Nordhavn owners and their great accomplishments of traveling the world’s oceans and enjoying the adventures of a lifetime. It is interesting to note that the average miles traveled is a little under half of a circumnavigation for each registered owner. Our goal is to reach 100 percent registration of all Nordhavns built and enter all of the miles traveled by previous owners.

If you have any questions regarding pennants or the Distance Pennant Program, please contact sue.ferrari@nordhavn.com.

History of the Pennant

From the earliest days of the age of sail up to the present time, the history of flags and the history of the sea have been intertwined. From at least the early 19th century, it has been the custom of ships returning from a long overseas deployment to fly an extra long commission pennant made up of whatever bunting could be assembled.

In the Royal Navy, this is known as the “paying off pennant” because a ship used to be taken out of commission and its crew “paid off” at the end of each cruise. In the United States Navy, it is called the homeward-bound pennant. Although not officially sanctioned by regulations, the Navy has issued guidelines for the use of this pennant in NTP-13(B), Flags, Pennants and Customs.

Rules

It is really very simple. Just click here to register and then submit your contact information in the required fields and list your trips with full details about your travels –including the number of miles covered.

In return, not only will your accomplishments be listed for all who visit this website to be impressed by, you will receive a complimentary Nordhavn Distance Pennant. Let the world know your Nordhavn is more than just a great-looking vessel. You and your Nordhavn have done what others dare not.

The first level is 2,500 miles. Subsequent pennants will be issued in additional 5,000 nm increments. Each will be a different color. No matter how the miles were accrued: one long trip, 50 short cruises or even if you have owned multiple Nordhavns, it’s the total miles accumulated that we are interested in.

PLEASE NOTE: Once you enter your miles, the database will automatically alert us to the mileage pennant earned. Pennants should not be awarded prior to miles being logged. If you have problems logging your miles, please contact dharlow949@gmail.com. If you have a specific address where you would like the pennant to be sent, please e-mail sue.ferrari@nordhavn.com.

Special Pennants

In addition to earning mileage pennants, owners can obtain special pennants:

Circumnavigator pennant: any owner who has circumnavigated the world will be awarded a Circumnavigator pennant. Please notify us if you have achieved a circumnavigation.

Extreme Latitudes pennant: anyone who has traveled above 66° North or below 50° South. Please notify us if you qualify for an Extreme Latitudes pennant and include a snapshot of your location

Portsmouth RI to Bayfield WI, Via the Saint Lawrence seaway.  First private vessel of 2021 to transit the SLS, completed 2600 NM in the month of May, plenty of COVID challenges transiting Canada.  Since our June arrival in Lake Superior we have crisscrossed the mighty fresh water sea in so many ways, adding an additional 1400 NM and so many great experiences, first 7 months of ownership = 4000NM and too many fond memories to count.

Summer / Fall 2022.  Isle Royal NP, depart lake Superior for Huron, Erie, Welland Canals, Ontario.  Rochester NY, St Lawrence river, Montreal, Quebec City, New Bruswick, PEI, Nova Scotia, return to New England, NYC, Baltimore, Norfolk, and the ICW headed south.....making way, an additional 3448NM to date.

Its been a bit since last update:

  1. Winter of 2022 was Bahamas, as far S as Long Island and Conception Isl.  Spring of 2023 head North returning to ME, stayed w Olaf and crossed to Nova Scotia, Cape Bretton, Newfoundland and as far N as Red Bay Labrador.  Insurance was a challenge to get coverage further N, circumnavigateing Newfoundland fist lap 2023, returning to the US E coast, FL and Bahamas for a 2nd trip winter 23-24.  Spring of 2024, depart West Palm FL, direct to Halifax, 1400nm, 8 day passage, amazing trip.  Time to go see all the friends we made last summer in Newfoundland!  Summer 2024 was spent on a second trip around the island of Newfoundland,  again only as far N as Red Bay Labrador.   Fall 2024 was a return to FL.  Transited the Okeechobee waterway to the Gulf of Mexico, up to Pensacola and a wild trip up the rivers to Knoxville, TN.   Lol, who would have guessed you could get a N63 813' above sea level?  Lots of locks, lots of tugs and barges, not too many cruisers.  7 weeks in Knoxville before 18 days down river back to the Gulf.  Return trip required going around FL, water was too low in the Okeechobee.   Spring of 2025 was departure again for Halifax, NS.  Up the coast to Bra's Dor lakes / Cape Bretton, returning to the W coast of Newfoundland to see old friends again.  This year is different, hopefully it includes the Torngat.  June 12 departed Halifax, July 7 arrived Nain, Labrador.   Lots of ice, thousands of bergs, several days of waiting for pan ice to open, what a trip up the Labrador coast.  Torgat was amazing, more than 16 polar bears sighted from the boats, too many black bear to count, lots of great Artic Char enjoyed.  We were the only boat in the park in July 2025, 5 weeks, not another boat or human.  Wow.  After returning S to Newfoundland we are now mid way around Newfoundland for the 3rd time.  7006nm since Feb 3rd 2025, lots of moving about, seeing and doing stuff in interesting places, amazing people!

Completed 3rd circumnavigation of Newfoundland 2025.  Returned to Cape Bretton, Nova Scotia, up the Bay of Fundy, Digby, St John, New Brunswick, back into the USA, Maine, and wintered in Boston 25/26.
