Three Nordhavns have joined a fleet of 45 yachts as part of the Van Diemens Land Circumnavigation (VDLC) – a rally of power and sailboats around Australia’s island state of Tasmania. The 800-nm journey is scheduled to take 5 weeks to complete, with scheduled stops for rest, re-fueling, exploring and social gathering.
Representing Nordhavn in this adventure down under are N55 “Skie”, N43 “Opal Lady” and N40 “Westwind”. Organizers of the VDLC describe the Tasmanian coast as among the world’s most adventerous and spectacular cruising experiences and therefore participating boats are required to meet strict safety requirements and must be appropriately equipped, well-found ocean-going yachts. Our Nordhavns certainly fit the bill and proved to stand out in the crowd of mostly sailboats.
The bi-annual event, hosted by the Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania, kicked off February 11 and will wrap up March 17. To learn more about the Circumnavigation and track the Rally’s progress, visit the VDLC website.
