The brand new and beautiful Nordhavn 5904 was delivered to its new owner last week but not before a crucial training and shakedown cruise was completed. All new Nordhavn buyers are given an extensive training mission of their new boat; and all new Nordhavns are thoroughly put through the paces prior to hand over.
Last week’s three-day, two-night trip was reminiscent of so many Nordhavn shakedowns, where every system is gone through, nearly every situation replicated – that includes boat operation but also lessons in properly enjoying your Nordhavn. The project manager of 5904, Garrett Severen, accompanied the owner as they made their way down from Palm Beach, running outside down to Miami with driving lessons occurring the entire way, and then dropping the anchor for the night. The second day they reversed direction, heading up the ICW to Fort Lauderdale while checking boat handling, systems training and bridge opening procedures off the list. The second night was also spent on the hook, another opportunity to practice anchoring. During the days, the tender was launched and hauled; the outdoor BBQ and back deck were put to good use at night and smells of breakfast cooking in the galley wafted in the morning. “We brought the boat to life,” said Garrett.
On Friday, the final day of training, the duo brought the boat north on the outside in about 5-6 ft. seas, experienced all the way up to Palm Beach, said Garrett. The Nordhavn 59 held pace with a nice, smooth, comfortable ride. “It was a very successful trip,” said Garrett, “The boat ran great, we have a few minor issues to be resolved next week, but that’s to be expected. The owner is extremely happy with the boat.” And most importantly, he is ready armed with complete confidence to take on bigger, exciting itineraries.
